Connected Futures Workshop with CP Square

Today’s the day. Guess I could say that about most any day but today really is the day – the first day of the Spring Workshop with CP Square, Connected Futures: New Social Strategies and Tools for Communities of Practice. I’m jazzed.

First I get to be together again with friends and colleagues in scheduled, intentional learning community or learning partnership (thank you Stephanie, OPI). I want to learn and contribute in these workshop sessions despite the fact that so many have eons more experience than I do. The first topic is about being a “technology Steward“.

This topic calls to me because I spend a lot of time thinking about and working with communities and groups who have a real need to connect online between meetings and face-to-face events.  Most have barriers and obstacles that keep them apart. I find that many state and organization structures have firewalls and policies that prevent staff from using web-based technologies.

And yet I wonder. What would it be like for a community of people to have easy web-based access to one another, to be able to connect, host conversations, solve problems, work together and maybe even dream, imagine, envision something new, unique, useful — something that just might help us create a better future?

I really like technology so I can get totally distracted by it. Plus, I tend to be the one people call regarding adopting technology – guess I set myself up for that one with putting my shingle out there to do exactly that. So now, I’m wondering, thinking,  re-thinking, pondering … time to take a deep breath and listen, inquire, listen, ask, listen, learn and give back.

i don’t know where I’ll land in five weeks but I do know that I’ll learn and intend to be a much better and more helpful technology steward. What else? We’ll see.
